Big News (And Just in Time for Hug A Plumber Day!)

I’m thrilled to announce that, in collaboration with colleagues at LIXIL, I’ve co-written a children’s book, Tubby Time to encourage young girls to take an interest in the trades! This is truly a labor of love and it couldn’t have happened without the support of some amazing people.

During a meeting, hosted by Troy Benavidez, on how to inspire more women to enter the trades, I remember asking a critical question – do we start young enough? While we’ve done some outreach efforts in the past with teenagers, what about young children? Mary Rose Debor, a co worker, former early childhood educator, chimed in – “I really like that idea!” She couldn’t recall a children’s book on plumbing. And so it began.

My plumbing background and her early childhood education background were a good match for bouncing ideas of one another. ??We started co-writing a story of young Jamie and what happens when there was no hot water for her bath. Tubby time is every child’s favorite part of the day. ?The talented Rigo Velez, also a Lixil employee agreed to do the illustrations.?His creations truly brought Tubby Time to life. ?One day little Jamie may even become iconic

Tubby Time is a children's book that follows Jamie, a young girl who suddenly discovers she can't take her bath because there's no hot water! Luckily, a plumber comes to solve the problem and show Jamie the importance of plumbing.

We are looking to make Tubby Time hardcover books available in the near future, but for now, please check out our website and enjoy a free download of the coloring book. This comes just in time for Hug a Plumber Day on April 25th (just one week away!) How special and endearing would it be it to have your child color a picture and gift it to a local plumber?
