Big milestones, pipe layer conversion and new gigs
While one of the previous editions brought you a couple of firsts, this one is mostly all about the largest project milestones the subsea players and projects have managed to reach in the fast-evolving energy landscape. The subsea industry's familiarity with the go big or go home philosophy made its presence known during the previous week, as it rose to the occasion several times on multiple projects. Without further ado, let's dive into our top picks.
One of the subsea giants that notched up a new milestone is Subsea7 , which managed to accomplish its “largest float-over ever performed" by finishing its scope of work for the sailaway and offshore installation of a topsides unit for bp 's platform in Azerbaijan’s sector of the Caspian Sea. The Luxembourg-domiciled firm underscores that this topsides platform is "the largest ever installed in the Caspian Sea."
The second player, which shows that 'largest' is the adjective that easily comes to mind for certain developments over the week behind us, is ROVOP . The Aberdeen-based ROV solutions provider sees the new five-year deal with Energean off Israel as its “largest field support contract.”
Another milestone over the week came with the stamp of approval for all onshore and offshore elements of the UK's largest green electricity transmission reinforcement project, which will be delivered as a joint venture between Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks SSEN Transmission and National Grid Electricity Transmission (NGET). The consent covers new converter stations and onshore and offshore cables. This project supports Britain's ambitions of enabling 50 GW of offshore wind generation by 2030 and achieving a net-zero economy by 2050.
In addition, Minesto wrapped up the build and functional testing of the seabed connection system for a 1.2 MW tidal energy device, which it expects to enable one of the fastest launch and recovery operations in marine energy by one-stab operation.
Meanwhile, Boskalis embarked on a fleet expansion quest by adding a new vessel, which is currently getting ready to be converted from a pipe-laying vessel to a cable-laying one to further enrich the Dutch giant's subsea operations offering.

The companies engaged in subsea activities have scored multiple contracts over the week. One of these was secured by Ocean Installer with Equinor for a subsea line modification project, covering three oil and gas fields on the Norwegian Continental Shelf (NCS) and work related to the Northern Lights CO2 pipeline.
To top off this list, we have TechnipFMC 's new multi-million dollar contract in Angola for the installation of flexible pipe and associated subsea structures at a life extension project, which is operated by TotalEnergies .
