The Big Lie

The Big Lie

You might be wondering what this lie is. It goes something like this “work smarter not harder”. It’s an idea that has been taken so far that people think there is no effort required anymore. It’s almost like if it requires effort it’s a stupid idea, this is the big lie I am speaking about.

Now I am not saying you should not work smart but there is still effort required. These days it’s about automation, efficiency, and streamlining. Hell, I have seen some people get so efficient that they don’t do anything, that must be the pinnacle of efficiency. Everyone wants to level up & grow but they also want to avoid the effort and being uncomfortable.?What you are doing is avoiding the exact thing that is the path to what you want.

No effort required I hear you say… The big lie

Self-help programs are filled with the ideas of affirmations and visualizing. It’s this idea that you don’t have to do anything else. Sounds like bliss, no effort is required…

I love watching documentaries and movies based on real-life successful people. I always look for common threads, one thing that sticks out every single time is the great amount of effort that these people put into whatever it was they were doing. It does not matter if it’s in sports, or in business, or in life in general.

Here are a few examples:

  • Schumacher- I wrote another article on this,?click here.?In this documentary, they speak about Michael always being the last to leave the track on race weekends, etc.
  • The Pursuit of Happyness- in this movie Chris Gardner played by Will Smith had to put in far more effort to win the internship. To the point, he would not even take water breaks.
  • The Defiant Ones- everyone notes how much effort Jimmy Lovine put into his business and building his skills in the early days.
  • The Last Dance- Michael Jordan is known for being the hardest worker, in this documentary, it’s the one thing everybody mentions even his competition.

What do you really want?

Everybody wants to be an entrepreneur, everyone wants a six-pack, and everyone wants to be a business owner but not everyone wants to put the effort in that is required. The big lie is that you don’t require effort to achieve the things you desire. We have all seen these messages of doing things quickly and easily. There is now an expectancy of this.

I have seen this in my coaching business, so many people just want a quick fix. We have all seen the messages on social media promising to scale your business, effortlessly, stress-free, and you can have success in 30 or 60 days. It’s a message of avoiding all the effort essentially. The sad part is you are avoiding everything it takes to get you what you desire.

Whatever it is you desire don’t shy away from the effort that is required. The big lie is that you don’t need to put the effort in. You can have everything you want, you must just really want it!!
