The Big Learning Curve

Do you like to know how things work? Are you a 'how' or a 'why' person? I know I am a bit of both. The thing I love about curiosity is the playfulness it offers. It gives me internal permission to question and discover. To allow your brain to relax, ask questions, pose theories or play with ideas can provide such joy. Giving myself permission to take a deep dive into this concept happened in 2013 when I watched Gavin Petor-Pinney's Ted Talk that reminded me that curiosity and slowing things down a bit is really good for your brain. I go back to it when I need a good reminder.
One of my greatest pleasures is to learn. I love documentaries and having a great old yarn with someone from an industry that I'm not familiar with. Learning how people tick and what makes them so passionate about what they do is a real privilege that I have as part of my job. Conversational learning is great but maintaining other aspects of my PD has been hard because often life and work get busy.
Being motivated to maintain my PD over the last two years has been hard at times. Of course, many of us have completed mandatory training but with the cancellation of conferences and face to face learning options, I have been left feeling a little flat in my own PD. That is not to say that I haven't enjoyed completing some online training, listening to podcasts and participating in industry forums but I guess I am missing the variety that different modes of learning can afford.

Someone said to me the other day that we just need to embrace a "new COVID normal". I have taken a few days to think about this and I guess that expectations and the way we learn for work or pleasure is changing. Of course, I can have preferences for how I like to learn but I was thinking about what I might be missing out on if I don't embrace the flexibility of the different modes of learning with a bit more gusto this year.
With a good dose of child-like curiosity I want to learn in new ways, with new people and networks and embrace the 'new COVID normal' to help me understand the world, my work and people better than I can today.
What will your 'new COVID normal' learning journey be?
