?? Big Launches from Google & X

Hello!

It's Nivedan. Nice to see you again and boy, do I have a treat for you today! A lot went down this week in AI.

I was busy having fun with FLUX.1 during the breaks I took while writing this edition. Believe it or not, every time I thought I had seen it all, it threw another curveball and left my jaw hanging.?

Now, onto the feast I've prepared for you today. Here's what I have got-

  • Details about Google's advanced AI voice assistant.?
  • What's new in Grok-2 and Grok-2 Mini?
  • AI News roundup from this week.

?Let’s go!

Google Puts "Extra" in Extraordinary

Remember when we thought Tony Stark’s “Jarvis” & "Her" were a far-fetched concept? Well, Google just said "Hold my beer" to all those speculations.

Google has unveiled Gemini Live, its Advanced Voice Assistant, for Android users, which directly competes with OpenAI's Advanced Voice Mode for ChatGPT-4o.

What Makes It Special?

  • Conversational AI: Gemini Live is all ears. It allows users to have free-flowing conversations, interrupt, pause, resume conversations, and change topics at any time. And the best part - it won’t go mad.
  • Customizable Voice Synthesis: Users of Gemini Live can select from a range of 10 distinct voice options for the AI's audio output. This feature enhances personalization and user experience.?
  • Always-Active Voice Interface: Gemini Live maintains constant voice recognition capabilities, even when the device is in a locked state.
  • Context Window: Built on Gemini 1.5 Pro and Flash versions, it boasts a 2 million context window, far surpassing ChatGPT-4o's 128k in Advanced Voice Mode.

Gemini Live is currently available only to Gemini Advanced subscribers on Android, with iOS and more languages coming soon.

You can explore the capabilities of Gemini Live in this short video by Google.

Is It Worth It?

At $20 a month, Gemini Live is pricier than your streaming subscriptions. But if you're itching to live in the future now and don't mind a few AI hiccups, it might be worth a shot.

Gemini Live can engage in conversations, but it will not replace your friends or take over your life. For now, it's your 24/7 sidekick—ready to help you ace trivia night, craft the perfect comeback, or explain why someone hasn’t texted back (Hint: he’s just not that into you, Karen ??).

This AI Is Part Picasso, Part Netflix

Elon Musk—yes, the guy who casually sends rockets into space has done it again. This time, he’s making headlines for launching Grok-2 and Grok-2 Mini, the two latest AI models from his company, xAI, now in beta.

Both these models are not just smart - they are witty and creative. Let's break down what makes both these models special- ?

  • Multimodality: Grok-2 can process both text and images. It also takes into account the latest updates from X while responding to user queries.?
  • Performance: Grok-2 and its mini version are right up there with GPT-4o, Claude 3.5 Sonnet, and Llama-3 405B when compared on general knowledge, mathematics, coding, and science benchmarks.
  • Image Generation Capabilities: xAI has teamed up with Black Forest Labs to bring the FLUX.1 model on X. This means Grok would be able to create incredibly lifelike images on X, setting a new standard for AI-generated visuals.
  • Availability: You can try out Grok-2 and Grok-2 mini on the X platform right now. API access is coming later this month for developers.?

?Users are already testing Grok-2's limits, flooding X with outlandish AI-generated images. You can view some of them here.

?While Grok-2 is pushing the boundaries of AI, remember it can still hallucinate.?

?Use it wisely, laugh at its quirks but always use your common sense. After all, we don't want AI planning our vacations – imagine ending up at a beach resort in Antarctica! ???
