Welcome to?"Ryan is Curious" Headlines, your biweekly roundup of conversations that piqued my interest across all topics and industries. Let's jump right into it:
What is your big prediction for 2022?
LinkedIn ?has published its list of 29 big ideas for 2022 . The following are a few thoughts from the piece that I found particularly interesting:

The Travel Industry's Resilience
I had the privilege of delivering the keynote address at the United States Tour Operators Association Annual Conference & Marketplace. It was a global affair, with government representatives from South Korea, Greenland, Canada, Costa Rica, Argentina, Iceland, Uganda, and others (yes, those countries were highlighted because they spent time with me:) to hotel and travel agencies!
As much as the travel industry has gone through, I love the optimism from everyone in the room and commitment to providing a wholistically experience. So many great conversations about how travel needs and will change and how/what needs to be provided in a customer experience. In my keynote, I mentioned how social responsibility will be a critical factor for all stakeholders in the future and three key factors that all leaders need to focus on. More information about my keynote will be shared in the coming?weeks!

Education, Arts, and Manufacturing sectors have the most notable shifts from last month
LinkedIn 's December 2021 Workforce Report was just released and below are a few highlights that stood out to me:
"Nationally, across all industries, hiring in the U.S. was 7.4% higher in November compared to last month October 2021"
"National hiring was 26.1% higher in November compared to last year November 2020."
"The industries with the most notable hiring shifts month-to-month in November were Education (13.5% higher), Arts (12.9% higher), and Manufacturing (12.6% higher)"
"Industries hiring below pre-COVID levels were Energy & Mining (5.8% lower), Entertainment (2.9% lower), and Public Safety (0.5% lower)."
What stands out to you? What industries do you think will soar in 2022?

The Work From Home Debate
This is a trending conversation around Work From Home that started to pick up steam late last year and does not look like it is going anywhere and for some companies....they will have to address it on either side...if not already.
Reuters ?reports that Google will be "offering employees a calculator that allows them to see the effects of a move...some?remote employees, especially those who commute from long distances, could experience pay cuts without changing their address"

That same article also highlighted some other experiments:
"Facebook ?and?Twitter ?also cut pay for remote employees who move to less expensive areas, while smaller companies including?Reddit, Inc. ?and?Zillow ?have shifted to?location-agnostic pay models, citing advantages when it comes to hiring, retention and diversity."
How do you think other companies will address this moving forward?

How do you handle burnout?
Because of the pandemic, there has been a greater emphasis on wellness. It is clear that many businesses are having difficulty recruiting and retaining employees in the current environment.?Goldman Sachs ?recently announced the implementation of new employee benefits to help its team combat burnout (see link in the comment section)
What areas would you like to see businesses provide more benefits in?
Some great suggestions and ideas are in the comments section here
PS - That is my Saturday sock collection, and I am at the end of a long hike...feeling refreshed!

2 年To add to this discussion -> 2021 was 2020's hangover; that places 2022 in the wellness and awareness category, which in turn sees #thefutureofwork evolving, because the deeper we plunge professionally into [cold] digital, the more we need the warmth of soft skills provided by fellow humans across industries. There's an emphasis on kindness, but we need to relearn our communication skills to better talk with one another, rather than at one another (i.e. the adult temper tantrum). You always make the big conversations lite, Ryan Patel. Also, where'd you get those ?? socks?
