The BIG4 on Climate - and yourself!

This week we have seen some reassuring messages from people that will change our world for the better. Clearly the forces in leadership are getting stronger and more committed. They have a huge task ahead of them. Let's make it easier for them by doing our part as well. First, who are the Big4?

Ursula von der Leyen (President Europe) has made climate number 1 of her and the EU agenda. She also made concrete statements on a Green Deal of Europe. Clear leadership where needed and this will be far more profound than many might expect today. A good sign.

Nancy Pelosi (Speaker of the House, US) went to Madrid to simply say that the US won't back down on Paris and they are still in it. Although only referring to Congress it's a PowerLady showing she stands for using her powers in the right way. Busy at home, ready to share commitment. Great leadership.

Frans Timmermans (First VP of EU) is clear on the future, the EU will be neutral by 2050 and is responsible for the creation of the climate law in the EU. He just added the language of Nature to his impressive list of 'mother tongues'. (he speaks over 6 languages fluently)

Michael Bloomberg (running for President US) has made a short and clear statement that he will attend Madrid for a simple reason, the US and the many committed cities and states can be counted on. Not only a reassuring sign, but actually, when you think about it, he just stepped into the single biggest economic opportunity ever existed.

You and me (Footprintarians) have to do our thing. Now we have the (right!) people in power committing to climate, we should do to. We all have a footprint so everyone can and should do something. And no, it's not easy. Paying more for plant sausages, restricting yourself from going on holidays by plane, or feeling guilty ordering double portions at a dinner - All understandable barriers for action but top-down changes like legislation take time and we need to change the landscape bottom-up. We will then meet the Big4 in the middle the fastest. The Footprintarian is about striving for a modern life with a positive footprint. I support this new initiative that aims to ignite more economic action in line with a sustainable future. Perhaps you can sign-up as well. www.footprintarian.com
