In rural communities throughout the country, the local pharmacy business is among the last mainstays of an era that is now drawing to a rapid close. And yet, the people who depend on it are much the same as they’ve always been—tightly knit, and highly interconnected with one another—but also tech-savvy. They get social media platforms and are keen on using them to stay in touch.

A good thing for those who can’t always catch-up in person around the water-cooler.

Especially, by and large, when there are far fewer water-coolers to go around.

Despite being hit hard by recessions, automation, and declines in manufacturing, there’s a resilience to smaller towns that make them worth the investment. At Benzer Pharmacy, we’ve built a substantial part of our business by helping other businesses sustain their viability amidst some pretty stark economic conditions. Part of that effort is driven by introducing group pricing and collective discounts that would be unattainable any other way.

The other part simply comes down to not changing a thing.

Particularly as it relates to first-name greetings and keeping the services patients have come to know and trust intact. Naturally, any pharmacy that joins the Benzer family is going to look a little different on the outside because of the new signage, but each will retain the familiarity of the past. Of course, that doesn’t mean our new acquisitions will be stuck in the past.

On the contrary, in many locations, we’re seeing the need to expand the kinds of items we stock in an approach similar to what you might find in a general store. If we can keep customers from having to drive 30 minutes away for their prescriptions, we can easily do the same thing—at the same time—for those looking for household necessities.

Big enough to serve you. Small enough to know you.

Benzer Pharmacy gets it right.

Independent pharmacies are so important to customer service and that connection between the pharmacist and customer. I feel it is the best way to serve the customer and community.
