What is Big Data University?

As stated on the Big Data University website, Big Data University is an IBM initiative aimed at spreading big data literacy. Big Data University's mission is to democratize access to practical skills for working with data by removing two big impediments: money and time. To that end, they have made everything you need to learn free. Free courses, free access to all the tools, free data – free everything and not for a few days or weeks – forever.  Big Data University courses are "self-paced",  allowing you to take as long as you need to complete a course.

BI, Analytics & Data Science Courses:

• SQL Fundamentals - Most software written today relies on relational databases such as MySQL or DB2. Within this free SQL course, you'll learn the basics of the relational database model and the SQL language using DB2 Express-C, the free version of IBM DB2 database server. You will learn SQL and how to create, read, update and delete data from a database. This SQL tutorial is aimed at beginners, but it will give you enough information to get you started working with databases.
• Introduction to Scala - This introduction to Scala course was created by Typesafe as part of our Data Science learning path. It is designed to give experienced Data Developers and Data Science the know--how to confidently start programming in Scala for data science tasks. The course ensures they will have a solid understanding of the fundamentals of the language, the tooling and the development process as well as a good appreciation of the more advanced features. If students already have Scala programming experience, then this course could be a useful refresher, yet no previous knowledge of Scala is assumed.
