How data improves energy return
?
The key to any long term solution is to make your information more accountable to drive efficiency within the business
There needs to be a collective approach one that industry supports together to get a much broader spectrum of Data and information that supports efficiency and growth in the existing fields.
Data can be the provider of that efficiency if the buy-in comes from all aspects of the trade this could transform the long-term intelligence of the industry and support the industry for generations to come.?
Efficient working equates to an effective workforce etc
I agree Rob. Good data analytics are a precious asset for many sectors and in many cases not enough thought and effort goes into the ground work needed to ensure effective output.

9 年Proper data analysis is key to any success, whether it's the race car I tune or optimising drilling practises. The problem in the industry seems to be that while costs are high (for deepwater, specifically), IT budgets and the technologies they deliver are offshored and cut to the bone. So, you can get a basic Oracle database, but you can't use things like global replication because service contracts do not permit it. Or, if a large data warehouse project exists, it tanks within a year or two because it is too ambitious for a first effort and the costs get out of control with little actual benefit to show for it. There is massive scope for good data analytics, but the correct structure to deliver them is elusive.

9 年Jonathan, great article, I am not convinced that Big Data and Data Analytics has yet proven itself across the industry, it is encouraging that the industry is at least looking at this technology. O&G is very conservative and look upon all "innovation" in the I.T. domain with particular suspicion, however in a time of industry contraction and ultra low oil prices it is likely to be a case of "needs must".
