Big Data is for everyone – Part 2 of 2
In the last post, we browsed through the benefits of big data. So the next question that arises is : How do I know I need big data?
The main factors to contemplate while choosing big data are:- The number of employees working in the company
- The current system you are working with

The main functions you need
You must list out all the functionalities you need while analysing the data. Some of the functionalities can be:- Extracting vital management information
- Storing huge volumes of unstructured or semi-structured data
- Real time customization
- Customer relationship management (CRM)
- The cost of the solution
Consider the need of the entire organisation
One of the biggest mistakes that companies make is buying Big Data tools to solve one specific problem or buying them without considering the needs of the entire organisation. You have to consider the requirements of all stakeholders, including those in marketing, sales, operations, R&D, IT, and analytics, to understand what they need to drive the business forward. Along with them, you should decide how information can flow seamlessly across the organisation. Buying point solutions address only one aspect of the solution. It limits your organisation’s ability to extract streamline data from big data and turn it into profitable value. The person who makes the purchasing decision needs to consult experts from data analytics, IT infrastructure, software, and business users. Thus, big data can successfully deliver benefits from the data throughout the entire organizationBuy bundled solutions to solve for adaptability and ease IT integration
Business environment and technology are constantly evolving. This could limit the return on your Big Data investments over time. While you could buy some of the best solutions today, you need to ensure the solutions you deploy adapt or evolve with the changing technology and business environment. It is a no brainer that data is becoming more complex every passing day. Today, all forms of information are becoming richer, faster and more fine-grained. Every two days, we create as much data as we created from the beginning of time till 2003. Thus, every organisation and enterprise must recognize the importance of this data generated each day. Businesses must analyse data and incorporate the findings into their product and services.
Big Data services delivers higher productivity and better value for consumers. It is the next wave of growth in the global economy. It has unleashed new avenues for companies to be competitive. It pushes for higher efficiency to enable better services, and enables firms and even whole economies to be more productive.
So you tell me – is big data for everyone or not?
