The Big Cheese

The Big Cheese
I recently created a poll on Linked In asking “What is your favourite cheese?” I offered four options:
1. A Good Strong Cheddar
2. Something French and smelly
3. Blue
4. Goats

and I headed the post on which this poll was published with the claim that this was a “scientific experiment” In a sense, it was?
There are now dozens of polls posted on Linked In each week. I respond to some and recently got involved in a discussion with one pollster, now part of my network, as I recognised and commented on the considerable value behind a fairly simple question that he had asked. That was a good example of how putting out a poll can be beneficial, for both the person asking the question and respondents. Sad to say, however: the vast majority are not worth responding to and seem to be more akin to cries for attention than offering anything interesting. Some topics are repeated in polls by scores (slight exaggeration perhaps), of Linked In members. My cheese poll has already been usurped and re-issued in a slightly different guise by one of my connections and if I see another asking “What was your first Job?” Well…enough said - give it a rest.
My slightly silly poll received over 5000 views and 165 votes. Several people took the time to comment on the post and for that I am genuinely grateful to you all. Cheese is clearly a big part of all our lives and long may that continue.
My poll was not obviously orientated to the business community on LI and it in no way sought to advertise or promote my business, but the results have encouraged me to believe that, now and then a bit of fun can be very engaging and mixing this in with other posts and contributions that do seek to support my work, is probably healthy and wise. I guess we all need to chill-out from time to time and that can be part and parcel of how we go about promoting our businesses and and engaging with our?network. Why not….
As for the results: Unfortunately a detailed statistical analysis has not been completed. Truly, there is no need. I adore Goat’s cheese, but I knew in adding that into the options that it was unlikely to win many votes. There was no surprise in the results, with Cheddar proving once again that it is The Big Cheese and most people’s favourite. It polled well over 50% of the votes.
Whatever your favourite is, if you saw my poll I hope it made you smile and if you do ever have need of my professional services I can promise that they too are well flavoured and will leave you feeling satisfied and replete.
