Literally Unbelievable. Isn’t it?

Within just one second, their whole world tossed upside down.?

Back home in India, parents of these students started panicking and had no idea if their kids will make it alive.?

Just imagine Giant Super-Fast Fighter Jets flying up above in the sky and dropping bombs in the streets of Ukrainian cities. Almost everyone rushed to save their lives and took refuge inside the underground basements of railway stations.?

Situations boiled up and war entered a brutal phase.?

ENTRY OF PM NARENDRA MODI & IMA?

But here in India, the largest body of doctors- “Indian Medical Association” heard the cries of Indian Students and immediately sprang into action mode.?

On February 25, 2022, IMA urged the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his personal intervention and requested him to bring back all the medics and students caught in the crossfire of war.?

OPERATION GANGA IS LAUNCHED?

Within a few hours, Indian Govt. launched “Operation Ganga” and started reaching out to Indian Students in Ukraine. Special Air India Flights were flown to the neighboring nations of Ukraine and thousands of students were safely evacuated by the embassy officials and brought back to India.?

But wait a second. Just while you are reading all this, our government is still evacuating more and more students from Ukraine and helping them land back in India.?

Right from his residence at 7 Race Course Road, PM Modi is still keeping a vigil over these developments and has also expressed his concern over the plight of Indian students struck abroad during these tough times.?

That’s why now he has openly asked the Private Sector to?

SET UP MEDICAL UNIVERSITIES IN INDIA?

The world is obviously focused on this war. ?

But for us, this war has finally put a big Spotlight on the condition of medical education in India.

FYI: Every year more than 25,000 Indian Students enroll in Foreign Universities to pursue Medical Education.?

Not just students, but billions of rupees move out of our country when Indian Students choose to study abroad. Of course, we must respect their decision. After all it’s their personal choice to do, whatever they wish to do with their money.?

First things first, most important question: ?

WHY??

The answer has always been there right before us.

In a population of 130 Crores+ citizens and with more than 15 Lakh students competing against each other to secure a seat from over 88,000 available for medical studies. ?

To be honest, it’s super-duper tough to score admission into MBBS program in India.?

Still need more figures? Come let’s do some real number crunching.?

Surprised to know the numbers? Even we were shaken while doing the math.?

By the way, now there’s something even more interesting for you.?

Let’s answer the Most Awaited Question:?

WHY INDIAN STUDENTS GO TO UKRAINE??

So, here comes the best part of this blog. This will open your eyes to the reality.

Here are the 5 prime reasons that tell you why Indian students choose to study medicine in Ukraine and other countries.

1.???VERY LESS SEATS IN INDIA?

First and foremost, we all must know that the apex body that oversees the management and advancement of medical education in India is the “National Medical Commission”. ?

As of today, i.e., 28th February, 2022, NMC Website states that India has 605 Public Colleges that teach MBBS and these colleges comprise of 90,825 seats only.?

Alright, we are already through with the numbers, but here comes the second most interesting reason-?

2.???MEDICAL EDUCATION IN INDIA IS WAY TOO COSTLY?

Paying high amount of fees becomes super challenging for middle class families of India. Colleges in Ukraine are affordable for Indian Students who wish to pursue MBBS.?

In Ukraine, total fees for a 6 Year MBBS Program falls in the range of INR 20 Lakhs -30 Lakhs. Whereas back home in India, private medical colleges charge them anywhere between INR 70 Lakhs – INR 1.2 Crores for the same duration of MBBS Program. ?

3.???NO ENTRANCE TEST?

Students aren’t required to clear any entrance test for scoring an admission to medical universities of Ukraine.?

4.???INTERNATIONAL RECOGNITION?

Ukrainian Medical Degrees are recognized by the Medical Councils of many nations and choosing Ukraine also gives these Indian students an easy access to Western Europe.?

5.???HIGH STANDARDS?

The cost of medical education in Ukraine maybe affordable, but their education standards are also pretty high.

FYI: There are 10 Medical colleges in all of Ukraine and most of them are run by the Ukraine Government. ?

?Moreover, all the universities of Ukraine are accredited by the W.H.O and U.N.E.S.C.O.

And even the medium of instruction in these universities is “English”.

So, this quality works in the favor of Indian Students.?

Is that all??

Does that mean Indian Students can study medicine in Ukraine and then start practicing in India??

Answer: NO. NOT UNTIL THEY PASS F.M.G.E?

FMGE stands for Foreign Medical Graduate Exam. One must know that for any MBBS Qualified person from abroad, it is mandatory to pass the FMGE in order to get a license to practice in India. An RTI even found that less than 10% of these MBBS Qualified students, successfully pass this exam. ?

That’s why Indian Prime Minister is urging Private Sector to invest in setting up of medical institutes in India. ?

HOW WILL PRIVATE SECTOR HELP MEDICAL EDUCATION?

1.???INVESTMENT POWER?

PM Modi has even urged the State Governments to form policies that allow for easy allotment of land for setting up of medical universities. Private Players will also check the potential for their Returns on Investment from medical institutes and when India already has 15 Lakh+ NEET Aspirants every year, then there is huge scope for them to tap this hot opportunity.?

2.???HEALTHCARE ACCESS TO ALL?

Underprivileged people from far off areas will eventually benefit with good medical facilities, when more and more professionals get qualified to practice medicine or serve in this field.?

3.???ACCESS TO AFFORDABLE EDUCATION?

With an expansion of available seats, India will witness many students pursuing MBBS and other medical courses, right here in India itself and that too at fees that will be on par with that charged by Ukraine and other nations. ?

4.???PROMOTION OF RESEARCH?

In medical education, our country will need more of researchers who’ll have to work on game-changing discoveries and innovations. India is already termed as the “Pharmacy of the World”. We must build on this power and leverage our position to bring advancements in the field of medicine and surgery. That’s where we’ll need Good Research Institutes for Health and Medicine.?

5.???SUPPLY OF GLOBAL TALENT?

Medical Universities in India can have strong potential to train and groom Indian talents who can then find job opportunities anywhere across the globe. And when these institutes will give opportunities to domestic talent, then we can at least hope for a halt on brain drain. ?

6.???INFRASTRUCTURE REQUIREMENTS?

Medical Education & Training demands practicing with most advanced equipment and machines. This level of investment and infrastructure readiness is possible only with the participation of Big Private Corporate Groups of India.?

A Spark has been ignited and now it’s the best time for Private Sector to make a mark.?

Well, every private group will have to assess all the dimensions before entering into the field of medical education.?

A NEW JOURNEY STARTS NOW!?

From performing feasibility studies to submission of proposal to gaining approvals and laying the foundation, it’s a journey where private players will need expert education consultants of India.?

That’s exactly the spot where Eduprogress & Research has supported many big groups of India to successfully establish and manage Top Ranking Education Institutions and Universities.
