The Big 50 ... in articles!

The Big 50 ... in articles!

Well, I have reached the Big 50, no not in terms of age, but some days it definitely feels like that, but in terms of my article contributions to LinkedIn. I started writing back in the early 2000’s when I had my own blog page and emailing distribution list and everything ??. However, over time this just became easier. So, I am not talking about posts in general as there are literally hundreds of those, but these are thought pieces I have sat down and poured my heart and mind into.

You might be wondering well why didn’t I see some of these? Well apparently, the LinkedIn algorithm likes to test if a large enough group of people likes reading what I write and if so, the engine shares with more people. I can see how this works because when one of my posts gets enough likes it suddenly jumps in terms of impressions and likes from a much broader base.

The other fascinating aspect of LinkedIn is that while this is a professional network, we clearly all have a human element we remain very much connected to which is great to see. While I have always agreed LinkedIn should be a professional network, that doesn’t need to mean we hide ourselves away in terms of who we really are.

To that end my top three articles in the past year have been –

Saying Goodbye After 19 Unforgettable Years

Embracing Your Authentic Self: Just Be You

Is the Digital Honeymoon Over?

Now, the first article is about my families move from Singapore back to the Netherlands and being thankful for experiences and curious about options ahead. The second article was probably more of a self help for me, but was encouraged to share with others, given many of us tend to try and hide who we are in an effort to fit in. The last piece is my highest rated business-related topic talking about whether the blind ambition of Digital has come and gone and whether we need a reset on our approach.

I was fascinated to see in my articles analysis that personal stories resonate more than business topics, I am fine with that by the way, and no it doesn’t mean I am just going to constantly talk about deep and meaningful topics. Just a reminder to all of us that we like to be connected and find that “Linked” part of our relationships in understanding a little more about who we are.

I am thankful for all the motivation of the past years and as I head towards 10 years of LinkedIn articles and more than 15 years of writing in general, I would love to hear on what themes or topic you would be interested in me to writing about. I am not stopping the Leadership principles series, those will continue, however always looking for motivation for new pieces to write.

For those who are wondering where to find all these articles that Nathan has written, well guess what, the link below will take you to all 50 of them for your gradual reading pleasure. I hope one -day to turn these into a book or a regular slot in a magazine, or when I get the courage and oxygen transition from text to voice in a podcast … lets see. … For now, thank you everyone for your support, motivates me to keep writing!
