If a team member intends to leave the organisation for better prospects and if it becomes impossible for supervisor to provide him/her with the same benefits, it is the duty of a team leader to offer his best wishes to the junior and say goodbye.
Tips for Team member departing the organisation:
- Give Advance Notice
Fulfil the notice period agreement with the company and do not just run away. Speak to your supervisor and make him understand why you are planning to switch.
2. Replace Yourself
Do not keep your supervisor in dilemma. The best solution is to have an alternative / successor ready. Even you can look for potential people and bring them to your team leader’s attention.
3. Train another new person
Another excellent option is to train a team member, so that h/s can perform the tasks you were assigned to.
Tips for Team Leader
- Accept Reality
Do not expect that someone will be devoted to you all their life. People will leave and you must accept this important fact.
2. Continuous Training
Keep recruiting and training people on a regular basis. If you have a requirement of 50 people, train 75-100 people and develop a pool of successors.
3. Multitasking
Engage and inspire team players for multitasking on different occasions. As a result when a team player leaves, some one will stand and shoulder the ongoing tasks immediately until a replacement comes in.
Chanakya suggest that no team leader should let his/her team player leave after a fight and with hard feelings. Because you never know when you will require the person again.
“Life is alike logs of woods flowing in a river, they flow together for some times and part, and meet again.” -Mahabharata
So, you never know when time will bring your old acquaintances back in your life.
