A Biblical View of Money
For the next while I am going to focus on different concepts around a Biblical view of God and money. You may have read that the Scripture has over 2,300 verses that are related to money and stewardship, so clearly it is one of the main subjects in the Scriptures. In my counsel of others over decades, it is one of the areas that I feel causes more angst and stress to families, which is not God’s plan. Recent research says that people overwhelmingly would like to “finish well” as good managers and that they want to “transfer well” values and valuables to others, but they do not feel like they are equipped to do that. I believe that one of the main reasons most are not pleased in this area is because we have a thinking problem around money.?
Consider?1 Chronicles 29:11-12:
11?Yours, Lord, is the greatness, the power, the glory, the victory, and the majesty, indeed everything that is in the heavens and on the earth; Yours is the dominion, Lord, and You exalt Yourself as head over all.?12?Both riches and honor come from You, and You rule over all, and in Your hand is power and might; and it lies in Your hand to make great and to strengthen everyone.
From this passage, we can see that God is the source of all power, might, and riches. It is God who gives us the ability to make great things and to have strength to do it. This passage also emphasizes that God’s Kingdom is the ultimate authority and God is exalted above all. This passage suggests that God is not concerned with money or material possessions in and of themselves, but rather they are a tool God can use to accomplish His purposes and to bring honor to His name. Just consider why you have been given so much to manage.
