Ah, January!
The time of year when I can see my breath in the cold morning air, the streets are glowing with holiday energy, and yes, you guessed it… It’s when everyone starts their New Year’s resolutions. At the end of the year, how many times have you heard people say things like:
? "New year, new me! This year, I’m finally going to start that business I've always dreamed about."
? "2024 is going to be different. I'm going to double my sales and expand my market reach, and I mean it this time."
? "No more procrastinating! I'm setting strict goals and sticking to them, no matter what! (And yes, that includes getting a visible 6-pack by June!)"
…Right.
While these promises are made with the best of intentions, we know that mere promises don’t make even the best intentions a reality. As Entrepreneurs, our approach to New Year’s resolutions needs to be different–More strategic, more structured, and infinitely more actionable.
Now, I know you might be thinking about turning to popular self-help gurus for advice. And, sure, you could dive into 'Think and Grow Rich', seek wisdom from Bob Proctor, or draw inspiration from Tony Robbins.
Don’t get me wrong, all of these are FANTASTIC resources that I’ve read and/or attended in the past. But sometimes, the most profound insights come from unexpected sources.
Let's turn to my original mentor: King Solomon and the Book of Proverbs.
This text offers a wealth of knowledge and can be seen as the ULTIMATE blueprint for strategic planning and goal setting.
Solomon’s teachings in Proverbs are not about quick fixes; they’re about building a solid foundation for your goals. He emphasizes the importance of discipline, hard work, and wisdom—All crucial elements for any Entrepreneur looking to set (and achieve!) realistic New Year’s resolutions.
Here are five ways you can implement King Solomon's teachings this holiday season.
? ?1. Seek Wisdom and Counsel Solomon valued wisdom above all else. So in setting your resolutions, don't just rely on your understanding or past experiences. Seek counsel from those who have walked the path before you. Attend workshops, network with mentors, and read extensively. Knowledge is power, and the more informed you are, the better your decisions and actions will be. ? ? ?
2. Discipline and Diligence Your New Year's resolutions likely involve achieving ambitious targets or making significant changes in your business operations. To realize these, instill discipline in your daily actions and maintain diligence. "A poor man makes a deceitful scale, and the hand of those who make true decisions will make [them] rich." — Proverbs 10:4
For instance, if your goal is to increase productivity, create and stick to a structured daily routine. I like to do this with a method called Time-Blocking:

Consistency in small actions will accumulate, resulting in MAJOR progress over the year. ? ? ?
3. Integrity and Honesty Solomon speaks highly of integrity, and that’s something I strive to always keep top of mind when running my company, Business Nitrogen. Be known for your honesty and character. Build a reputation that attracts clients, partners, and employees who value transparency and trustworthiness. ? ?
?4. Plan and Execute with Prudence "Plans are foiled for lack of counsel, but they are established through many advisers." — Proverbs 15:22
Don’t rush into decisions. Plan carefully, consult widely, and execute decisively. Every major decision should be well thought out, taking into account the long-term impact on your business, and once you make a decision, act decisively. ? ? ?
5. Balance and Contentment Finally, Solomon teaches the importance of balance and contentment. While pursuing your business goals, don't neglect other aspects of your life. In other words… Don’t go overboard. Don’t make the sole purpose of 2024 just to achieve your business goals.
Ensure you make time for faith, family, friends, and most importantly…Yourself. A balanced life leads to sustained success and happiness. So, as we say goodbye to 2023 and welcome 2024, let’s approach the coming year with wisdom, discipline, action and balance.
Let's make 2024 a year where we create REAL results in all areas of our lives—While many of the people we know inevitably quit by February 1st (statistically speaking). With that being said…
Have an amazing and safe 2024!
To your success,
David
