A Biblical Conundrum!!!!
Top of the weekend my friends! The story I’m about to share is true! You know the names but not the a biblical conundrum?
Come closer please. It all started with my study of Living by the Book from Dr Howard Hendricks of Dallas Theological Seminary.
While researching the Prophet Daniel. I was unaware he was David’s 1st son before he became King with his second bride Abagail. (1 Chronicles 3:1)? Keep reading it get better.
If the name sounds familiar? She’s the sister who convinced David not to kill her then husband Nabal (the fool) for blowing off his mighty men. Who had been protecting their estate from drive by bandits! Traditionally each land owner would give David and his mighty men a love offering! For they're efforts, Nabal gave them the finger! Oh snap!
When David heard the news he went ballistic!! In walks our heroine Abagail. She got wind of her husband’s amateurish attitude. Abbie quickly hooked up a feast for a king and his men.
When she met David and his men. Abigail hit him with that sweet sister charm. Dude was not only taken back but a bit smitten too. He aborted the onslaught and offered thanks for her words of wisdom.
Meanwhile back at the ranch, upon hearing the news her idiot hubby dropped dead! Long story short, sister girl would become David’s first love!! He married Abbie as they say, before Nabal’s body was cold!!
Here’s where the biblical conundrum comes in with this nuptial. In 1 Chronicles 3:1 Amnon is listed as David’s 1st son from his 3rd wife Ahinon. I thought that’s strange. So I dug deeper, Daniel is now listed as his 2nd son. Add to this drama in 2nd Samuel 3:3 Daniel’s name is listed as Kileab from the same mother. Why?
Hebrew folklore felt that David may not be the baby’s daddy. Remember the marriage happen so quick, it’s possible it could have be Nabal’s. Awkward!!!
Add to this drama David’s 1st wife was Michal, 2nd Samuel 6:36 says she never had any children. Making Abbie his 2nd bride also his first love!
Here’s what I’ve constructed once the baby had it’s first or second birthday. Daniel looked just like David. Thus in my best Maury Povich voice. David you are the father! The name Kileab?disappears and Daniel remains in the royal family line and becomes a major prophet and explainer of dreams! Isn’t that the way things turn out!!
I close with Isaiah 41:13 “For I am the Lord, your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you Do not fear I will help you” Donut ever forget it!
