The Bible is Outdated: Part 1
Over the course of the past several years, I have heard many people say, “the Bible is outdated.” So, exactly what does that mean? In a nutshell, the statement is most accurately defined as follows:
“The Bible was written a long time ago thus it has no relevance on a personal and societal level.”
Upon initial reflection, the logic for this conclusion seems to make sense. How can a book that was completed approximately 2,000 years ago have meaning today? Think about it. We live in a world were people enjoy purchasing the latest and greatest items. The American consumer makes up 70% of the economy. What does this tell us? American’s have a love for new things, new smartphones, clothes, TVs, books, movies, etc. From an American psyche perspective, the argument of the Bible being outdated seems coherent. The logic and reasoning certainly add up.
However, in our consumer-driven mentality age, the Bible is without question the greatest of all paradoxes. This ancient book sells around 100 million copies annually with America accounting for somewhere around 25%. The figure is astonishing literally swallowing up the New York Times Best Sellers list. The question then becomes:
“Why do people find the Bible this 2,000-year-old book so relevant?”
I believe the answer to be the following: People are searching for the meaning and purpose of life.

6 年The age of a truth does not make it relevant or not. Truth is still truth the matter how old it is. “We still hold these truths to be self evident” was said over 200 years ago and our nation still follows that.
