Luke 11:1 “And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.”
?Jesus was known to pray often and within ear shot of His disciples. Once, after he was done praying, the disciples came to Him and asked Him to teach them to pray as John had taught his disciples. In the verses following verse 1 of chapter 11 of Luke is the model prayer that Jesus gave His disciples.
Have you ever wondered why the disciples would ask Jesus and not someone else to teach them and not someone else? I believe that it was because they had seen Him in action, they had heard Him pray and they had seen the fruit of His praying in answers. They knew that He knew how to do it and they wanted to learn from one who was proficient in the skill.
If you have something that you are wanting to learn to do you need to find someone who has done it successfully or someone who is doing it successfully. It is never wise to take advice or council from someone who is less skilled than you are or is a novice at the skill themselves. Go to those that are the best at what you want to do and seek help from them.
The next thing that this passage brings to my mind is what is it that you want to teach others to do? Have you mastered it yourself? Are you successful at it? Be careful of giving advice to others in areas where you have not yet had proven success.
