Colossians 4:6 “Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.”
This may be one of the most difficult passages in all of the Bible, to have our speech always to be full of grace. Why is that so? It is because the tongue is an “unruly evil, full of deadly poison that no man can tame” according to James.
We all have trouble controlling, not only what we say but how we say it. If people are unhappy with what I say I want them to be unhappy with my position and not my disposition.
There is nothing wrong with taking a stand for what is right. It is the right thing to do, however you can take the proper stand and have grace with those who disagree. No one has ever insulted someone into agreement, but with grace and a little seasoning of love we can bring others to at least give us an audience.
If we are argumentative and combative that is the response we will receive. If we are calm and collected in our thoughts and opinions we will get that response.
Solomon? wrote in Proverbs 15:1 “A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up strife.”
