Hebrews 12:1 “Wherefore seeing we are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses , let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us.”

Life is a marathon not a sprint! Maybe what we are going through right now is giving us the opportunity to recognize that. We have been running really fast for a really long time and maybe it was time to slow the pace down a bit and learn to run with a little patience.

Let me give you the characters in this passage.

1.???? The participants: “let US run.” We all have competition and we need to expect them to be prepared and ready to run the race.

2.???? The spectators: “Compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses” Have you considered the fact that others are following you, watching how you prepare, how you participate.

We need to have caution that we are not bogged down with things that are irresponsible and irrelevant. “Lay aside every weight and the sin.” We all have a million things on our plate, but we need to be able to separate the good from the best and focus on the vital instead of the important.

Lastly, we need to develop patience in the race that we are in. Patience with people, patience with progress and patience with our production. We have a long way to go to get to the finish line of life. Make it a marathon and not a sprint.
