I couldn’t agree more with NATO Military Committee Admiral Rob Bauer: security and stability is not a given, we have to do something for it - be it in the area of defence, be it in the area of law enforcement/justice and home affairs. Additionally, the industry must fulfill its social responsibility by ensuring that its products are secure and safe to use, rather than prioritizing profit over security. Because in the end they should have an interest to maintain stability and security as this are the prerequisite for a healthy economy. Good talk German Marshall Fund of the United States ??

While future conflicts will undoubtedly be fought over oil, there are many strategic resources that may result in conflicts over new and emerging strategic resources, such as rare earth minerals, lithium, semiconductors, and other strategic resources such as AI development and drones. What can the U.S., allied, and partner nations do to ensure these resources are not weaponized by adversaries as oil and natural gas have been used by Russia. Increasingly, the strategic resource of semiconductor competition by the U.S. and China has become an emerging threat. What this goes to show is that a country’s metrics – the size of its population, military, and economy as well as its membership in various international organizations – aren’t always the most accurate indicators of sovereignty. A much better model for predicting whether or not a country will comply with or defy external pressure upon it is the composition of its policymaking elite, which is part of its “deep state” (permanent military, intelligence, diplomatic, and other bureaucracies) and also influenced by it.
