Bi-material liners

Bi-material liners

Who said you cannot have the best of both?

Whether it is wagons hauling through the extreme temperatures of the Arctic or the high axle loads of iron-ore and coal wagons, the bogie centre bowl liner is the core that keeps our wagons turning.

The problem with most centre liners is that polymer materials having a low coefficient of friction to promote slidable displacement, tend to also have low impact and/or mechanical strength.

The solution? Bi-material liners

Vesconite's bi-mat liners provide the right properties where they are needed.

The ring of the centre liner is exposed to flexural and impact stresses during installation and operation. Hilube 20 is a resilient bearing material that is well suited to the tough conditions of the ring-liner. In extreme weather conditions, a high-impact split ring can compensate for thermal expansion.

The flat-liner controls bogie rotational resistance and stability. A high performance bearing material, Vesconite Superlube, is desirable to optimise bogie steering and reduce wheel-wear.

So... Why can’t we have the best of both?
