BHP Billiton's Nanpo Mine Helps New Development Of China's Steel Industry

On September 6, the BHP Billiton Technology and Product Experience Exchange Conference was held in Hangzhou, Zhejiang. Jeremie Louis, vice president of global iron ore marketing at BHP Billiton, delivered a video speech, and Mr. Qi Bin, representative of China Iron and Steel Association, shared the operation analysis and outlook of the steel industry. More than 200 guests from domestic and foreign iron and steel enterprises, trading companies, universities, etc. participated in the event in a simultaneous online and offline manner.

The Nanpo Mine will help stabilize the supply of high-quality flour and Newman mixed blocks, and provide customers with new options for optimizing basic ore blending and production. The Nanpo Mine will improve the average grade of BHP Billiton's iron ore products while maintaining low levels of harmful trace elements, supporting the low-carbon development of the steel industry.

The BHP Billiton South Slope Mine Project was completed and put into operation on May 20 last year. The total investment in the mining area is US$3.6 billion, and the designed sustainable annual output is 80 million tons. It is the largest new iron ore project in Australia in 50 years. Since July last year, the iron ore of Nanpo Mine has been successfully delivered to Chinese customers.
