BHM - 2025 - Tupac Shakur

Tupac Shakur (1971–1996) was an American rapper, actor, and activist, widely considered one of the greatest and most influential hip-hop artists of all time. Known for his raw and socially conscious lyrics, he addressed issues such as racial inequality, violence, and inner-city struggles.

Shakur began his music career in the early 1990s as a backup dancer and rapper for Digital Underground before launching a successful solo career. His albums, including Me Against the World (1995) and All Eyez on Me (1996), were both critical and commercial successes. His song Dear Mama is one of his most celebrated works, showcasing his introspective and emotional style.

Beyond music, he was involved in acting, starring in films such as Juice (1992) and Poetic Justice (1993). His outspoken nature and legal troubles contributed to his controversial image. He was associated with Death Row Records and became entangled in the East Coast-West Coast hip-hop rivalry, particularly with The Notorious B.I.G.

On September 7, 1996, Shakur was shot in Las Vegas and died six days later at the age of 25. His murder remains unsolved. Despite his early death, his influence endures through posthumous albums, cultural impact, and continued discussions about his life and legacy in hip-hop. I remember the day Tupac died—I was in Houston, talking with some friends. I felt incredibly sad.
