BGP States
BGP is a crucial routing protocol for the internet, with six states involved in the session establishment process. The first three states are concerned with TCP while the last three focus on BGP. The states are Idle, Connect, Active, OpenSent, OpenConfirm, and Established. BGP will move through these states until a successful session is established. The ConnectRetry timer plays a key role in the transition between states, allowing 120 seconds for the connection to complete. If unsuccessful, BGP may get stuck in the Idle state and start the process again.
