Beyond the Treadmill

Beyond the Treadmill

Leadership today feels heavier than ever. Constant change, heightened expectations, and personal pressures create a relentless treadmill. The truth is, we’re often too busy “doing” to focus on simply “being.” But how can we lead others well if we’re not nurturing ourselves?

I'm learning that sometimes as leaders, particularly those perceived as strong, we need to acknowledge that we can't always be on top of the world. We need time to process, to grieve, to figure things out. But we're rarely granted that time because we're constantly on that treadmill.

It's not physically, mentally, or emotionally healthy to carry as much as we do. Yet how do we share the load when the world feels like it needs strong leadership more than ever?

Perhaps there's no clear answer. But I know this: We're probably all carrying weight that's not ours to carry. We've overpacked our suitcases at a time when we need to simplify and lay some of those weights down.

This season, I challenge us all to slow down and evaluate what we’re carrying. Are we holding onto unnecessary weights? Are we asking for help when we need it??

I don't have all the answers. But I know we need to have this conversation.

Thank you for sharing such a thoughtful perspective. It's so important to take a moment to reflect on our achievements, especially during busy times. How do you find those moments to pause and recharge?

Wylecia, a great reflection and reminder to slow down and take care of ourself then others. Also to remove the “noise” as I refer to the extra weights great advise as we close the year.
