Beyond Scrolling: How to Find Meaningful Content on LinkedIn

Beyond Scrolling: How to Find Meaningful Content on LinkedIn

LinkedIn has evolved from a "Facebook" for white-collar professionals to a powerful ecosystem with features like knowledge bases, open and closed communities, groups, and events. While this rich environment offers valuable insights, the volume of content and click-bait posts can be overwhelming.

Given my role, I spend a significant amount of time on LinkedIn. As a strong advocate of digital hygiene, I'd like to share strategies for cutting through the noise and finding content that truly enhances your professional development.

1.) Leverage LinkedIn groups, events and industry-specific pages

Utilize LinkedIn Groups, Events, and industry-specific pages to expand your professional network. LinkedIn offers:

  • LinkedIn Groups: Communities for discussions, knowledge sharing, and networking among members with shared professional interests.
  • LinkedIn Events: Online professional events hosted directly on the platform.

?? How to find them:

  1. Go to the LinkedIn search bar and type a topic of interest.
  2. Select "Groups" or "Events" from the filter options.

Once you follow a page or join a group, you can manage your preferences by going to "My Network" and selecting "Manage My Network."

From there, choose "Groups," "Pages," or "Events" to adjust your settings.

2.) Curate Your Feed

Curate your LinkedIn feed to stay updated on the people and industry leaders you’re most interested in.

?? Here's how:

  • Use the LinkedIn search bar and select "Posts" instead of "Groups" or "Events."
  • LinkedIn allows you to filter posts shared within the last 24 hours, past week, or past month, so you can stay informed without missing out.
  • Choose whose posts you want to see, and create a personalized feed of updates from your top connections.

  • Finally, bookmark the link. Now you're all set to regularly check for updates.

3.) Explore LinkedIn Contributors

LinkedIn launched collaborative articles some time ago. According to LinkedIn, this feature is designed to leverage the collective knowledge of the LinkedIn community. These articles start as AI-powered conversation starters, created with the help of LinkedIn's editorial team, and are then enriched by contributions from community members.

?? How to search:

  • Explore a high-level overview of topics here .
  • Each high-level topic includes various threads of contribution articles, updated in real-time by LinkedIn users.

Search hack:

  • You can find contributors using an X-ray string search technique. Full credit for this method goes to Jan Tegze .

X-ray Search String: Use the following format in the search bar to find contributors in a specific industry:

site:linkedin.com/advice/0/ "Finance" (replace "Finance" with your desired industry)

By adopting these strategies, you can transform your LinkedIn experience from endless scrolling to a platform for targeted learning and professional growth.

Happy LinkedIn Hour!

Hi Natalia Zagoriy, CHRL, CDSP I was going this rabbit hole and found this myself too few days ago, while I was AB testing using the /advice/ subdomain. I have a suggestion. While this is one way of doing it - site:linkedin.com/advice/0/ "talent acquisition" The other way to find top Topic 100 discussions in any category is by doing this search - site:linkedin.com/pulse/topics/ inurl:talent*acquisition Wishing a happy weekend
