As an international student in Kingston, the task was simple to get a good grade: create a LinkedIn account and connect. But for someone from a place where LinkedIn wasn't used, and networking was often misunderstood, this was more than a class assignment—it was a step into the unknown.
The Quote That Sparked a Connection. In April 2022, a quote from Pamela Hackett 's "Manage to Engage" struck a chord with me: 'You can be anything you want. But if you are going to be something, be brilliant about it, and do it with gusto.'
These words gave me the push I needed. I reached out to Pamela, and to my surprise, she welcomed the connection. That "Of course!" from an acclaimed author was a victory for a student from the Philippines. It was a small step for Pamela but a giant leap for my confidence.
Building Confidence, One Connection at a Time. Each interaction with Pamela was a building block for my self-belief. Her recognition of my posts was more than just a like—it was a nod that said, "You're doing great." It was a slow process, but I was finding my footing and rebuilding my identity in this new place.
A Workshop That Was More Than Just Learning. Fast forward to April 26, 2023. Pamela offered to lead a leadership workshop for free—a gift for students hungry to learn. It was a chance to give back and foster growth in others.

A Birthday to Remember. Introducing Pamela at the workshop coincided with my birthday—a moment filled with so much emotion that it's hard to put into words. It was a testament to how far I've come since that first online connection.
Gratitude for My Circle of Support. I couldn't have navigated this journey without my professors, Kathy Patterson and Jessica Bredschneider, who connected me with Amanda Hulton. Their support was crucial in bringing this workshop to life.
The Power of Networking. This experience has taught me the true power of networking. It's not just about career opportunities but personal growth and building a community with these incredible women: Erica, Hilda Anowey , Rechell Bernales , Prof. Lisa V Macdonald MBA, CHRL, CCS .
