With the Great Games on the horizon, health professionals are sounding the alarm about potential outbreaks of pertussis, measles, and COVID-19. The influx of international visitors and large gatherings raise the risk of these diseases spreading, potentially overwhelming emergency services. Experts stress the importance of proactive measures and vigilance to mitigate this threat. Ensuring robust healthcare resources and preparedness is crucial to prevent the saturation of emergency departments and to safeguard the smooth execution of the Games amidst these health concerns.?

Emmanuel Macron is embracing the Olympic spirit. "We are ready and we will remain ready throughout the Games," assured the head of state.?
Four days before the opening ceremony, the French President visited the Olympic Village and inaugurated its police and fire station. Accompanied by the Minister of the Interior and the Minister of Sports, he lunched with the French delegation and visited the France quarters.?
Officially open since Thursday, July 18, the village is gradually filling up, already hosting 4,000 athletes. The total is expected to reach 9,000 athletes and 14,500 people when everyone has arrived. According to the Olympic Games organizing committee (COJO), some of the thirty Russian and Belarusian athletes who will compete under a neutral banner are already on site.?
There is "no identified threat to security," assured the Minister of the Interior in an interview with Le Journal du Dimanche on Sunday, July 21. Gérald Darmanin sought to reassure the public just a few days before the start of the biggest sporting event of the year, while emphasizing the need to remain "very humble and focused."?
According to the minister, "960,000 administrative investigations" have been conducted, resulting in "4,340 people banned from the games for security reasons."?
This summer, 30,000 police and military officers will be deployed daily in Paris, with the number rising to 45,000 on peak days. Additionally, over 20,000 private security agents and 10,000 soldiers from the "Sentinelle" force will be on duty. Their mission is to prevent and respond to crime, terrorist, and cyber threats, as well as to uphold the "image of France."??
"Israeli athletes are not welcome," declared Thomas Portes, deputy of La France Insoumise (LFI) left-wing party. A few days before the opening of the games, the deputy stated he wanted "to use this opportunity and all the levers we have to foster mobilization."?
This statement sparked outrage among many political leaders, accusing him of "putting a target on the backs of Israeli athletes." Christian Estrosi, the current mayor of Nice has called for a procedure to dissolve LFI.?
Gérald Darmanin, the Minister of the Interior, condemned Thomas Portes’ remarks on France 2 on Sunday, July 21, and tried to reassure the Israeli athletes, promising that all necessary measures will be deployed to protect them during this summer's events.?
Additionally, Israeli President Isaac Herzog will be in Paris next weekend for the inauguration ceremony.??
