Beyond reading

Beyond reading

I like to read!

I like to be alone with my book.

I like to write notes from that book to clear my mind.

I like to talk with others about the books that I have read and share the insights from the book.

First three things I practice often.

The last one I didn’t.

Why?

I was not even aware of it until some situations happened...

Situation no.1. Don't come to work!

A few years ago, Lemax CEO, Mate, and I talked about one situation we had in our organization and he told me to read one book where he saw some good advice we can use, so we can discuss possible solutions to our situation.

With a lot of tasks on my table and two small kids at home, I didn't know how will I find the time to read a book although in total it would take me around 5 hours.

It doesn't seem a lot but for me, it was too much at that moment.

I thought we will continue discussing without a problem but then he told me next: "I have an idea, don't come to work on Friday and read the book".

I was shocked! And grateful.

I read the book, and on Monday we had a quality discussion on the topic.

This opportunity and experience show me what can I gain if I discuss the examples from the book and map them with real life examples.

Situation no.2. Wine and ideas

Ok, wine is an important part, but the point of this is something else:)

I was sitting at dinner with my teammates, and we shared some thoughts from different articles and books. Then a question popped out: "What do you think about reading the same book and organizing a book club?"

We had a deal!

From then, we organized 5 book club afternoons and shared our views on what could we implement in or HR practice and in the organization in total.

The fourth thing I love from my list above was alive;)

Sharing the insights we have from books helped us to develop our skills!

3 months ago, our Sales team adapted the idea and already the second book club is behind them.

Yesterday we had our first book club in the Leadership team.

The book that we read was ‘Hard thing about hard things' by Ben Horowitz.

It was a very interesting discussion.

I love books and reading even more now.
