Have you ever wondered what you could achieve if there were no limits and you had unshakeable self-belief in your abilities? Our mindset profoundly influences our results and whether we step up or shy away from opportunities. When we believe in ourselves fully, we can achieve remarkable feats. Yet, it's all too common that we doubt ourselves more than we should. So we miss out on stepping fully into our greatness.
Eliud Kipchoge, the first person to run a marathon in under two hours, embodies this principle. He famously said:
"The mind is what drives a human being. The mind is what makes me go. It's the mind that makes me believe that I can run a marathon under two hours.”
His achievement was not just about breaking records, it was about breaking limits. Now, he has taken this philosophy beyond the track, launching the?"No Human Is Limited"?movement to inspire and empower young athletes in Kenya.
Through his foundation, he provides mentorship, education, and athletic opportunities, showing them that with the right mindset, discipline, and belief, they too can achieve greatness.
His message is clear: the biggest barriers are often the ones we place on ourselves, and we are all capable of more than we imagine.
From Stuck and Stagnant to Solo Adventures and Success
On a more personal note, my client Tina once felt trapped in a toxic relationship and an unfulfilling job. However, she didn't really know what to do, or feel confident or strong enough to go about making key changes. Working together, she overcame her limiting beliefs, freed herself from self-imposed restrictions, and pursued her dreams.
Initially, she left the relationship and quit her job. Next, she decided to pursue additional studies. Then, she embarked on a solo journey around Australia in a campervan.
She said she would never have done this if she hadn't worked on herself. In her words:
"I have transformed my life."
Tina's story illustrates that when we confront self-imposed limits and rewire our thinking, we can create extraordinary transformations. Yet, we often need someone to help us see what we cannot see and who believes in us more than we believe in ourselves. Hear Tina’s journey in her own words here.
Tips to Overcome Self-Limitations
1.Monitor Your Self-Talk
Make it a habit to regularly observe your internal dialogue. Negative self-talk can undermine your confidence, leading to minimising your self-belief and eroding your potential.
By consistently identifying and changing negative thoughts, you can rewire your brain, create empowering beliefs, and develop a success-oriented mindset.
2.Dream Big and Embrace Challenges
Dare to dream and set yourself a big, ambitious goal. Break it down into manageable, even tiny, steps and take consistent action. By continually pushing your boundaries, you build resilience, self-belief, and expand your sense of what is possible. Remember, self-belief is vital to finding the courage to back ourselves fully.
3.Surround Yourself with Supportive Individuals
Cultivate relationships with people who uplift and encourage you; those who provide motivation, constructive feedback, and help you maintain perspective during challenging times.
As Hillel the Elder wisely asked,?"If not now, when?"
Be bold, decide to look at where you are, and if you don't like everything you see, take the first step to challenge your self-imposed limitations. Always dream big, and continue to step into your greatness. Never settle for anything less.
Now - what is one thing you will do?
