Beyond Limits: The Transformative Impact of Ambitious Goal-Setting

I used to adhere to the SMART goal acronym.
It's OK if you want to hit 'achievable' goals, but people don't grow when they set goals that are achievable. Where's the drive? Where's the motivation?
So these days I aim for 'ambitious' goals.
I remember when I played rugby, our coaches would set us targets in the gym that pushed us beyond our limits. They explained that, unless a muscle is pushed beyond what we may see as capable, it won't grow.
I have noticed that if we do things within our capabilities, we keep where we are. But when we stretch ourselves, challenge ourselves to grow and develop, that's when we learn and grow.
So, set yourself a stretch goal or two. It's the only way we will grow.
