Beyond the Internship: Celebrating Kevin's Journey!

Going into my senior year of college, I wanted to gain real-world experience in the public relations and social media professions. It was important to take the concepts and theories I have been learning in the Department of Communication at UConn and apply them to the industry. I stumbled upon the opening for an internship at CashmanKatz (CK) and immediately knew it would be the perfect fit for myself and my career goals.

From my interview, I could tell that CK was more than just a typical agency. It seemed to be a place that fosters creativity, individuality, and allows its interns to build the experience they want.

My internship with CK has far exceeded my expectations for a college internship. Rather than other internships, where students are often stuck doing senseless tasks, the CK team made this a true educational experience by fully immersing me into their daily tasks. From day one, everyone made me feel like a welcomed member of the team and included me in their ideas, planning, and execution. It was evident that this is a company that fosters working together and building a community in order to achieve the best for their clients.

I worked on both the public relations and social media teams at CK, gaining firsthand knowledge of how integrated both are with each other. For public relations, I was able to write press releases, research, media reporting, etc. It was tremendously valuable to see what public relations professionals do every day and what my future career path may look like.

I also worked with CK’s social media team. This included creating social media content for a variety of platforms for a number of CK’s clients. This encompassed caption writing, content creation, stock image generation, and scheduling via Hootsuite.

I cannot recommend interning with an agency enough. Working with CashmanKatz this semester allowed me to see all the different sectors that marketing can occur in and which I enjoy working on. Whether it be a government agency, healthcare, or corporate, marketing is a key way to build a company’s presence. Agencies like CashmanKatz play a crucial role in their client's success.

I am so thankful for the opportunity to spend my semester working with the incredible team at CashmanKatz. I will take this experience and the valuable skills I learned with me as I continue on in my career journey. But most of all,? I will miss working with such a kind and supportive team!
