AWS Solutions Architect at Bundesliga ?? ???? | AWS Community Builder ?? | Passionate about AWS ??, Serverless ??, and AI/ML ?? | I help teams to get the most out of AWS building solutions that align with the business.
Every journey has a beginning, and the journey of my professional career started in Cologne, Germany. My dear colleague Daniela Sauermann already made the point: If you are in Cologne you can’t hide from media and entertainment and broadcasting.
I started with an apprenticeship in computer science at the national public broadcasting station Westdeutscher Rundfunk or WDR for short. While working at WDR, I studied computer science in parallel and made new friendships. These friendships made me join the world of private broadcasting - I applied as a Web Developer working at RTL Deutschland .
Over a decade ago, I was just another software developer, passionate about the intricate dance of code and technology. But as the years passed, my interests evolved, leading me to the vast expanse of cloud, serverless, artificial intelligence, and machine learning.
In 2013, a pivotal moment marked my career. My first touchpoint with AWS while building a voting system for a renowned live TV show in Germany. It was a revelation. The sheer potential of cloud technology and domain-driven design captivated me, and I became an ardent advocate. My passion wasn't just about the technology itself but the endless possibilities it unlocked.
Fast forward to roundabout 2017, and an exciting opportunity presented itself: working at DFL Digital Sports GmbH , or DFLDS for short. Little did I know then that this would be the start of an incredible chapter in my professional life, where my love for technology, AWS, and football would intertwine in the most fulfilling way. I told you - you can’t hide from media and entertainment. Moving to DFLDS for me, is the natural evolution for working in one of the most exciting business domains.
Entering the Pitch
Joining DFLDS in 2017 was like stepping into a grand adventure. I was initially brought on board as an externally hired cloud engineer. The task at hand? Integrating an Electronic-Program-Guide for the official Bundesliga App. It was a challenge, but challenges have always been my thing.
From the very first day, the atmosphere was electric. I was introduced to everyone on the team. From Day 1 on, I wasn't just another external hire; I felt like I was wearing the same team jersey from the get-go. The trust, the belief in my skills, and the shared passion for football and technology made me realize, that maybe this wasn't just another job. It was the beginning of something great.
As days turned into months, my role began to evolve and contracts were extended. I transitioned to the Bundesliga-App team, diving deep into innovative features, and bringing lineups and tactical formations to life in the app. Every project felt like a matchday, with its highs, lows, and moments of sheer passion.
Then came the game-changer. With the budding partnership between Bundesliga and AWS, a new role emerged: AWS Solution Architect. It felt tailor-made for me. I took the leap, applied, and soon found myself as the first AWS Solution Architect within DFL Digital Sports. New role, new challenges, but the same undying spirit of collaboration and innovation - we call this #oneteam.
Living the #OneTeam Philosophy
The #OneTeam philosophy isn't just a catchy hashtag at DFLDS; it's the very fabric of our culture. It's about more than just collaboration; it's about unity, respect, and a shared vision. From the moment I stepped into this organization, I felt it. The way everyone rallied around a common goal, the way every voice mattered, and the way every individual, regardless of their background or role, was valued.

As a parent of two wonderful kids, the flexibility and trust that DFLDS offered became a cornerstone of my well-being. It's not just about getting the job done; it's about ensuring that every team member can strike that delicate balance between their professional commitments and personal life. #oneteam means to care for yourself and the ones around you.
We all understand that for one to be at their best professionally, their mental and emotional well-being needs to be nurtured. The flexibility to adjust my work schedules, the trust in my decision-making, and the genuine concern for my well-being have been instrumental in boosting my mental health.
Moreover, the little things matter. Celebrating personal milestones, like getting a day off on birthdays, or the support for personal interests outside of work, all contribute to creating an environment where one doesn't just work but thrives.
For me, the #OneTeam philosophy isn't just about professional unity; it's about holistic well-being, where every team member feels seen, heard, and valued.
Looking back and ahead
Looking back, my journey at DFLDS was transformative. From my early days of integrating features for the Bundesliga App to stepping into the shoes of the first AWS Solution Architect, every chapter has been filled with learning, growth, and a sense of belonging.
But beyond the roles, projects, and technologies, it's the culture and values of DFLDS that truly stand out. The #OneTeam philosophy isn't just a mantra; it's a lived experience. It's the unity, the shared celebrations, and the collective drive to innovate and excel. It is the openness, kindness, and high-fives from day 1 that really got me. That makes me proud to say: that I am part of the Bundesliga.
As I reflect on my time here, I'm filled with gratitude. I am grateful for the opportunities, the challenges that pushed my boundaries, and most importantly, for the trust and flexibility that allowed me to balance my professional aspirations with my responsibilities as a parent.
If you're seeking a place that values innovation, collaboration, and individual well-being, I encourage you to explore the “Life Tab” on our LinkedIn company page. And if you're as passionate about technology and football as I am, consider checking out the career page. Who knows? You might just find your next adventure, wearing the same team jersey, and being a part of the Bundesliga
#OneTeam. Or like my manager Alexander Altenhofen would say: Welcome to the party ??

1 年AWS cloud and League football, you got to love the world. Thinking about porting NFL stats into live stream predictions of player performance: who's got the hot streak and next play predictions. Does the league advertise an sdk integrated web kit for development?
