Today, as I toured Kuala Lumpur with Stephen Chong , I found myself captivated by the ornate doors of a temple. Painted boldly on them were guards—powerful, stoic figures whose purpose was to protect the sacred space beyond. They stood as sentinels, as if daring you to approach and walk through.?
?
At first glance, these guards seemed intimidating, but their real role wasn’t to frighten. They symbolized protection, ensuring that once you crossed the threshold, you entered a place of safety, calm, and purpose.?
?
It struck me how similar these guards are to the limiting beliefs we hold as entrepreneurs. They stand at the doors of our potential, appearing as barriers, when in fact they are illusions designed to keep us small. But here’s the truth: if you’re brave enough to walk through the door, you’ll find safety, clarity, and growth waiting on the other side.?
?
?The Guards of Limiting Beliefs?
Limiting beliefs, like the painted guards, can seem larger than life. They loom over us with thoughts like:?
- “I’m not good enough to succeed.”?
- “What if I fail?”?
- “I don’t deserve this level of success.”?
?
These beliefs often feel immovable, guarding the entrance to the next stage of our business or personal growth. But, just like the temple guards, they are constructs—painted barriers that exist only to challenge us. Their power fades the moment we decide to step forward.?
?
?The Courage to Walk Through?
Walking through the door requires bravery. It’s an act of faith in yourself and your ability to face the unknown. As entrepreneurs, it’s tempting to stay outside, staring at the guards and allowing our fears to keep us from moving forward.?
?
But the real magic happens when we decide to trust ourselves enough to take that first step. Because beyond the door is where we find the safety we’ve been searching for—not safety from failure or challenges, but the safety that comes from knowing we’ve overcome our inner barriers.?

?What Awaits Beyond the Door?
When you walk through, here’s what you discover:?
?
1. Clarity: The noise of self-doubt quiets, and you begin to see the path forward. Limiting beliefs blur your vision, but stepping beyond them reveals new opportunities and solutions.?
?
2. Empowerment: Each step forward builds confidence. You realize the guards were never as threatening as they seemed—they were just a test of your courage.?
?
3. Freedom: Limiting beliefs are chains that bind us to old stories. Walking through the door is an act of liberation, allowing you to rewrite those stories with a new narrative of strength and resilience.?
?
4. Growth: Beyond the door is where the work begins. It’s where you can embrace challenges, take calculated risks, and expand into the potential you’ve always had.?
?
?The First Step is the Hardest?
It’s important to acknowledge that stepping through the door isn’t easy. Limiting beliefs feel real, even when we intellectually know they’re not. The first step requires vulnerability—a willingness to accept that you don’t have all the answers and might face failure along the way.?
?
But once you step through, you’ll find a safe space on the other side—a space where you can learn, grow, and thrive.?

The guards on the temple doors in Kuala Lumpur reminded me that what we fear most is often what protects and strengthens us. Our limiting beliefs feel like barriers, but they are the guardians of our growth. When you summon the courage to walk through the door, you discover that safety, clarity, and success were waiting for you all along.?
?
So ask yourself: What door are you standing in front of right now? And are you ready to walk through and claim the safety and freedom on the other side??
?
Take that first step. The guards are only there to make the journey more rewarding.?
