Beyond the Glitter: Finding Meaning in the Eternal

Beyond the Glitter: Finding Meaning in the Eternal

Beyond the Glitter: Finding Meaning in the Eternal

This morning I read a concerning article about the Davos event.? How many of the rich and powerful seem to live thier lives; (https://nypost.com/2023/01/18/prostitutes-charge-davos-attendees-2500-a-night/).? I was shocked but not surprised to read about the debauchery of the rich and famous.? It led me to write this blog, in what I believe is behind such debauchery and short sited living.

We're bombarded by a constant stream of distractions: the latest gadgets, fleeting trends, superficial relationships, and the insatiable need for social media validation. We chase temporary highs, chasing the next dopamine hit. But what if true fulfillment lies not in this fleeting glitter, but in something deeper, something more enduring?

What if, instead of chasing shadows, we focused our energy on what truly matters?

  • Building bridges, not walls: Cultivating genuine connections with the people we love, practicing empathy, and serving others. These are the bonds that transcend time, the echoes of a life well-lived.
  • Nourishing the soul: Cultivating inner peace, developing virtues like kindness and compassion, and seeking wisdom through continuous learning and introspection. These are investments in ourselves that will yield eternal dividends.
  • Leaving a lasting mark: Contributing to something larger than ourselves – whether it's planting a tree, volunteering in our community, or pursuing a passion that ignites our souls. These are the actions that create a legacy that extends beyond our own lifetimes.

It's easy to get caught up in the daily grind, chasing fleeting pleasures. But let us remember that life is a marathon, not a sprint. Let us choose to invest our time and energy in things that have lasting value, things that will nourish our souls and enrich the lives of those around us. Let us build a life that resonates with a deeper, more enduring truth.

This reminds me of Matthew 19:24, where Jesus said, "It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven." While this passage speaks to the dangers of material wealth, I believe it also speaks to the dangers of prioritizing fleeting pleasures over eternal values.
