Tomorrow marks a significant milestone as Morocco celebrates the 25th anniversary of His Majesty King Mohammed VI's reign. Over the past quarter-century, Morocco has transformed into one of the most robust and dynamic nations in Africa and the Arab world, a testament to His Majesty's visionary leadership.
Change is never without its challenges, yet the positive transformations we have witnessed reaffirm that the promises of the past can indeed illuminate a brighter future. This progress is deeply rooted in the trust and aspirations of our people and the guidance of a leader committed to our nation's prosperity. Each year, His Majesty emphasizes the indispensable role of the Moroccan Diaspora in our economic development. Their contributions, amounting to billions annually, significantly bolster our GDP.
However, it was particularly striking when, in 2022, the King called on the current government to formulate an action plan to more effectively engage the Diaspora. Despite this clear directive, we have seen no tangible progress, which is disheartening.
Reflecting on an article I penned last year , it is disappointing to realize that, two years on, the status quo remains unchanged. The need for the Diaspora, alongside investors and stakeholders, to propel Morocco’s burgeoning economy forward is more pressing than ever.
What is hindering this progress? Perhaps it is time for us, the Diaspora, to take the reins. Should we not organize ourselves, creating our own action plan to support the King’s vision? Isn't it time to establish stronger networks abroad and advocate for a better Morocco? By connecting with locals, honoring our commitments, and moving beyond short-term political agendas, we can drive substantial change. Remember, politicians and government officials are there to serve us and facilitate the investment process. We must approach this not merely as holiday visitors but as investors and business enablers, poised to make a significant impact.
The Diaspora today are not waiting for an annual event where they are invited to discuss and dine on tagine to feel a sense of home. This outdated approach no longer resonates. It’s time to strategize with the Diaspora about the Diaspora, not merely talk about them with a select few who are enticed by a single invitation and VIP treatment to participate in conferences and workshops. Moreover, it’s time for the Diaspora to invest in their own initiatives, travel, and exploration of Morocco. This should not be just out of love for the country or admiration for its beauty but with the mindset of entrepreneurs, investors and risk-takers, ready to invest money, time, and energy to maximize their impact. By approaching Morocco as a landscape ripe for investment and innovation, the Diaspora can significantly contribute to its growth and prosperity.

3 个月Strong encouragement Ahmed. Either the soccer championships set in an important chain reaction and/or the cooking pot called The West, which is already boiling but not hot enough. And don't underestimate pivotal preperations which go unseen, untill trending and "liked". We are indeed before the wave in sha Allaah
