Beyond Best Practices: Uncovering Solutions & Optimization Oracle Fusion PPM

As part of my current role, I am working on an Oracle Fusion PPM optimization project for a client. As consultants, we often prioritize out-of-the-box solutions and best practices, sometimes overlooking the specific issues faced by the client. However, we have come to realize that problems that seem trivial to us can significantly impact the client's daily operations and productivity.

For example, one user was struggling with an additional click they had to make, which was initially considered a minor inconvenience. However, upon further investigation, we discovered that this extra click was required hundreds of times per day, causing significant delays in their work.

Over the past five years, this client has faced various issues that were not addressed appropriately, resorting to best practices and out-of-the-box solutions instead of customizing the approach to meet their specific needs. Nevertheless, in our engagement with the customer, we started to think outside the box and explore other options to provide effective solutions to these long-standing issues.

To illustrate, one of the issues involved the time it took to update specific records. After examining their system, we identified some redundant steps in the update process, which we eliminated to reduce the time required to update records.

Another challenge the client faced involved creating contracts after project finalization. To facilitate billing, the client manually created these contracts, even though most of the data required for the contract was already available from the project. This manual process was time-consuming, resulting in over 2000 man-hours of work per year. To address this inefficiency, we proposed automating the contract creation process by directly interfacing with the project data required for the contracts. This solution would significantly reduce the time and effort required to generate contracts, saving the client over 2000 man-hours per year. By listening to our client's specific needs and challenges, we can identify and address crucial issues that may have a significant impact on their operations.

The client also encountered difficulty in identifying projects associated with contracts. To resolve this issue, we proposed developing a dashboard with the capability to drill down, allowing the user to quickly identify the project and initiate a contract creation request. Our solution will increase user efficiency by more than 75%, as it eliminates the need for manual searching and copying of information.

Another issue related to the organization of their data. By reorganizing their data in a more logical and intuitive manner, we enhanced their overall efficiency and productivity.

In conclusion, as consultants, it's crucial to pay close attention to the specific needs and issues of our clients. While best practices and out-of-the-box solutions are useful, customized solutions tailored to the client's unique challenges can be more effective. By working closely with clients and employing creative problem-solving strategies, we can provide straightforward solutions to long-standing issues, enabling them to achieve their objectives. Yes Kashif Hussain - FCA you are right. Standard solutions unfortunately don't cater operational glitches of Users. You are doing fantastic work to make sure that system is operationally accepted by relevant users. Such little out of the box solutions means a lot in getting desired results timely and making users more motivated to use system rather than to feed system.
