Los Angeles, CA - The country music world and the urban/R&B world received a shake-up when Beyonce dropped two singles, on the night of the last Super Bowl, that she classified as country music.
While this isn't her first foray into country music (another story for another time), this is the first time that she's released her own music in this genre.
On the night of the Super Bowl, her music hit Twitter, where I happened to be, and I witnessed all of the hoopla and hysteria. From that point on, it turned into a debate almost as spirited as the Lincoln-Douglas debates (where newspaper coverage was intense). These days, we live by Twitter, of course.
The debate was about if the song was indeed "country" and if Beyonce was now a country artist. Many debated about the attire that she wore on the promotional pictures released that night. Suffice it to say, the attire left nothing to the imagination and her spicy attire served to only heat up the debate!
Then, another Twitter rumble centered on if she had upstaged the R&B singer, Usher, the half-time artist booked, and if her timing was disrespectful to him by taking away from his "shine" or national, if not global, attention.
But things were just getting started because the public spat led to Daily Mail headlines like these.
And these...

I'm a country music artist and have been since the 2018 release of my song, "Bet Not Take My Soul," although I grew up listening to country music and wore cowboy hats and boots as a young college student. If I can locate some of the photos, I'll come back and insert them in this article.
You can click the YouTube link below to listen to the song.
It's also here on Amazon Music.
First Country Song Released, Lyrics - "Bet Not Take My Soul"
If my man, oooh, if my man
I said-a if my man wanna leave me, if my man's gonna go
He can take away my money, but he bet not take my soul
I don't care 'bout his new woman, or her brand new chest
I just care 'bout my honor and none of the rest
Gave him all my loving, my strength and my soul
Then he up and got a new woman straight from the stripper pole
She's full of silicone and a heart made of stone
But if that's what he wants, then I say let him go
If my man's gonna leave me, if my man's gonna go
He can take away my money, but he bet not take my soul
He didn't have no bucket, nor a pot to piss in
When I met him at the bus stop when he came out the pen
I made all this money by the sweat of my brow
When I started playing juke joints, but look at me now
Set him up in a business, he said he'd work hard
But when I was away, he was catting in the cat yard
Done got a new kitten, and she's full of milk
But it's all gonna sour, when he's poor like her ilk
When he takes my money, I sure can make more
But he's gonna keep on blow'n it on kittens on a stripper pole
I said now if my man's gonna leave me, if my man's gonna go
He can take away my money, but he can not take my soul
I don't care 'bout his woman, or her brand new chest

I just care 'bout my honor and none of the rest
It's well with my soul, take your boots and go
I'm strong in my strength, he can't break my mold
Can't take my soul, hell-to-the-no
I'm sturdy as pure gold, take the money and go
You can't take my soul, you can't take my soul
Can not take my s-o-o-u-l

But, back to Beyonce, as the debate continues with the upcoming release of her country music album, and whether or not country music fans will be accepting of the new album. If you're tired of the debate, then prepare yourself for possible headlines like the following:
But let's digress, because at this juncture, I think we have to hearken back to Charlie Pride, a person who personified the very meaning of "trailblazer," as he made his way into country music -- back during some difficult days, to be sure.
I don't foolishly imagine that it was all peaches and cream for him when he started out in the genre, but it's without a doubt that he was a beloved artist in his field. One only has to Google him performing onstage and witness the audience reception. He was a genuine country music artist and his art was as well.
I think Americans respect those who've paid their dues, and Mr. Pride paid his. This is my favorite song by him.
My "take" is that Beyonce and the country music debate is one that will be ongoing until the next Grammy Award nominations are announced and right up until the show, and beyond.
Why? Because both sides will continue to moan and groan if she is, or isn't nominated for her country music album, or any of the individual songs. They'll keep the debate going full steam if she wins anything and also if she walks away empty-handed.
It was just recently when her husband Jay-Z addressed the crowd about the lack of his wife winning a Grammy album of the year award.
If you're a fan of arguments or angry and intense debates, then keep your popcorn popper plugged in. While the passion is hot, it's not solely centered around race. Folks of opposite races are chiming in for the "other" side. This black artist, Azealia Banks, seems to be Beyonce's staunchest critic.
You're going to need lots and lots of popcorn before this debate ends, as Beyonce has recently issued a statement explaining her motives for venturing off into country music. See the Forbes link below.
As stated, I'm a country music artist, so if you want to hear my country music, just click the link below.

TEMPERANCE LANCECOUNCIL BIO
Temperance Lancecouncil is a singer-songwriter in Los Angeles, California, who originally hails from the Carolina, Virginia line.
Having overcome two bouts of life-threatening, double pneumonia as an infant, at age three?she began singing and dancing to Motown tunes made famous by the Supremes? –??as her mother taught her three-part harmony, and sang right along with her.
In first grade, she was hand-picked from her class to star in her school's play, in a role that required her?to have the stage all to herself at times. Looking out at the audience with all eyes glued on her, she wasn't nervous; and felt amazing joy when she received a “fate-sealing” standing ovation for her performance.
Later, she took to her high school's concert choir for two years as a soprano, with (still memorable) 5 a.m. rehearsals, about which she says were brutal on her, as she could barely remember her own name at that hour.
After the quintessential cheerleading, homecoming, and pageant pursuits, she majored in broadcast journalism, then headed to Los Angeles.?She began working at several major, media and music organizations and encountered world-famous musicians and athletes.
All along, she pursued acting, cut a few demos and formed her own band. While traveling the entertainment super-highway, she amassed a few movie, television and film credits.
Love how music brings diverse voices together ??? Plato once suggested that music gives a soul to the universe - echoing in every harmony. #countrymusic #unity #inspiration
