Manual Handling surcharges are a fairly new surcharge introduced by some carriers in the past few years. The terminology around it can vary greatly however generally it applies if you send awkwardly packaged goods, products that are not packaged well or items that can’t easily travel down conveyor belts in carrier depots to be sorted automatically.
If manual intervention is required by the carrier’s staff to sort the product through their depot or system you will experience this surcharge if the carrier you use charges this surcharge.
I recorded a video on the Smart Send Youtube channel a couple of years ago which goes into detail on how and when you may receive this charge.? It’s a great watch to ensure you can navigate the pitfalls of this increasingly prevalent charge by Australian carriers.
