If you are a food processor, chances are you've looked at the Food Safety SQFI Version 8 Standard and wondered why on earth would you need a food fraud policy?
Even if you are not accredited to SQFI, your Organic Management Plan or HACCP table might have a vague reference.
Well, based on what we have heard from clients lately, there's every reason to put the policy in place!
Reports of dried herbs, spices, and vegetables having anything but what they are meant to in them, have been coming in - for example, powered coriander that smells suspiciously nothing like oregano and blended with what looks like olive leaves!
Also, we have had a report of a spice containing pieces of tree bark – an obvious substitution according to the clients.
