When a one trick pony tries to take you for a quick ride tell them that you want a strategic marketing plan - Not a ride on a Merry Go Round!
Lead generation is but one element in a sales process to deliver prospects - not even customers. It certainly does little towards achieving broad marketing objectives such as building brand awareness, increasing market share, creating customer loyalty, client retention or business growth and development. Of course further down the track some of those things might trickle out. Lead generation is just one tactic which can be used in a much more serious strategy built in to an overall marketing plan.
It is enough to make Robin Hood quiver - seeing the plethora of pretend marketing consultants and Business Coaches touting their wares with only one arrow for their bow! Most have no idea of marketing's basic principles, displaying their ignorance of marketing myopia - headed down the same track as horse and buggies of yesteryear. It is unlikely any are aware of Theodore Levitt's marketing lessons.
A clear give away is the sound of a single string being plucked with pretext it is a marketing symphony. If the only tune a one string banjo player has is "Lead Generation" you had better look elsewhere for marketing advice & strategies. It would be useful to get a grounding in marketing fundamentals plus discover more about Marketing Myopia - a term used in marketing as well as the title of a marketing paper written by Theodore Levitt in which it is suggested that businesses will do better in the end if they concentrate on meeting customers’ needs rather than on selling products.
