Between the Lines 2019 - Portraits of Authors
Hard to believe this will see me guesting at The Edinburgh International Book Festival for the 11th year, producing a 'live exhibition' of author portraits. An exhibition unlike any other, in that I am shooting and displaying the work outside and each day new work is added.
Opposite is a portrait of the very tall and very hirsute Philip Ardagh.
I have a small outdoor space which serves as my "penthouse studio", as one guest assumed I was working from. Sadly this being Scotland budgets are not those of New York. Actually it is this lack of glamour that often allows the subjects to let their guard down and allows me to get more from them. Afterall there are not many studios that have grass growing through the floor.
If you find yourself in Edinburgh in August then Charlotte Square Gardens is the venue for this unique body of work and each day fresh work is added. Most photographers are never able to say their work has been exhibited to over 100,000 viewers.
See below for a short backstage look at the set up from 2018. This year I will endeavour to give more insights so please do follow my author_portraits on Instagram.
