#BetterBeforePerfect
Two key "attitudes" get in the way of good problem solving: believing you already know the answer and believing the problem is unsolvable.
Avoiding the pitfall of preconceived problem causes is one of the hardest things in problem solving techniques. Beliefs have ruined so much effort trying to figure out the root cause of a problem. Always be fact based - learn the basics: define the problem well, carefully select metrics to measure, look at the problem from multiple angles using pareto charts. That should give you a good first insight. Never guess.
The second big thing is to believe problems are unsolvable! Jack Sparrow is a jester movie character: nevertheless, he has a point!
If your attitude is driven by perfection, you will hardly ever solve any problem at all. Seek improvement, implement, sustain and then revisit the problem. Never underestimate what you learn along the way - useful the next time you (re-)visit the problem.
