For Better Or Worse? Not Neccessarily
Darlene Robinson's Story
Historically, including in storytelling, women in midlife and beyond were expected to fade away. I'm grateful for the shift in our culture. Ironic that it is shifting despite these challenging times for females. Perhaps our current circumstances are propelling some women to push back.
SweetSpot: Now and Then debuting in a few months, (I'm told by my publisher) profiles a year, 1999, in my protagonist's life. Propelled by fear that fading away was the expectation, she couldn't, though she did try. We follow her in the then chapters of her story that chronicle changes she anticipated and those she did not. In the now offerings, her older self shares a perspective she did not have back when fear drove her to do what she did back then.
A mashup of fiction and memoir describe this novel significantly influenced by Nora Ephron’s HeartBurn and Annette Williams Jaffee’s Dangerous Age.
