Year 2024 | Week 21 | My third diary entry... here goes.
Effectively this was a 2-day week for me - Monday & Tuesday were somewhat productive and then Tuesday evening onwards our household was a petri dish. By Sunday evening all of us dealing with the latest wave of COVID... in any case this is what I managed to get up to this week.
Topdrill's data-driven safety journey
Back in 2021 (give or take a year) I first met the team at Topdrill as part of their exploration into the use of wearable tablets for drilling assurance - they were at the start of their data journey and this week we met again for a call to discuss their progress. They showed me how they are integrating various sensor and user-generated data sources for HSE compliance and performance. They talked about their challenges and how they overcame then and we discussed the "what's next" - I hope to be able to share some of Topdrill's journey in the near future but in the meantime if you are interested to learn more, DM me and I'll put you in touch.
Soter Event
On Tuesday, Matthew Hart was in town and treated a group of curious professionals to an overview of their SoterGenius solution; preceded by a masterclass in agentic reasoning and the world of AI agents, retrieval augmented generation and architecture of a modern LLM-supported solution stack. It was interesting for me to hear what questions get asked in these forums and to gauge the maturity of the market... Thanks Ashleigh A. for organising.
XR Awards Announcement Recording
This year I was privileged to judge the 2024 XR Awards... this week the winners were announced. You can see the Rising Star category announcement here.
On the topic of awards judging...
AIHS Judging
This year I've volunteered to judge the Technology & Innovation Awards categories for the Australian Institute of Health & Safety Awards. Its's actually a LOT of work to review and assess the submissions - I've spent about 15 hours over the past two weeks on the submissions and look forward to discussing the finalists with the rest of the judging panel in a couple of weeks.

AARP Safety Review
In my capacity as the Safety Innovation Lead at the Australian Automation and Robotics Precinct I'm undertaking an annual review of the critical risk activities and mitigation strategies - this week I spent time forecasting risk activities for the coming 3 - 6 months and then a longer term horizon to plan and prepare accordingly. There are some awesome projects going on up at the AARP leveraging the latest in automation and robotics technologies - the risks are unique!
LifeBooster Data Collection
My last effective job for the week was data collection using LifeBooster sensors project... the data collection went really well... then it all went downhill health wise for me so I'll update next week...
Time for Rest
Kids home from school earlier in the week, symptoms progressed and by the weekend all of us had tested positive for COVID; so a very slow weekend and likely a slow start to the week... my email auto reply is on with a "likely to respond slower than usual" message. To all my clients thanks for your understanding, and apologies in advance to those of you I cancelled on during the week.
Time for rest.
Catch you next week.
