A Better Way to Install Small Switches.

The big project on my desk right now is a security camera install at a camp and conference center in Boyertown, PA. We are installing 27 Cisco Meraki cameras, a mix of MV72, 52 and 12W models along with a handful of MS120-8LP switches. Its a fun project and was a long sales cycle so I am glad to see it getting close to the finish line.

If your not familiar with MS120-8LP, they are a desktop mounted switch so they don't ship with a rack mount kit. We like to put everything in a rack or a cabinet to prevent the inevitable build up of cleaning products, empty boxes and old coffee cups from landing on critical IT infrastructure. For years we would add a small shelf to each of our quotes to hold any of this kind of equipment, your small form factor switches and edge security devices. Rack shelves have a purpose but doe really solve the problem, the gear can slide around, people can shove it to one side, and its not that clean of a look. So I started looking for something better.

Rackmount.IT seeming offers a rackmount solution for every small form factor device on the market. I was so impressed with the build quality and price point I had to start introducing these to clients. To date I don't think I have had a client say, "we don't need that." Usually they say, "Wow, that's nice."

One of the features I really like is how well it dresses in the power cable. It keeps the inside of the cabinet so much cleaner. I know they aren't the only game in town. I've had my hands on several competitors but I haven't been impressed.

More updates on this camera project and some other cool stuff we have in the pipeline coming soon.

Best,
