A better way to celebrate World Environment Day
This time of the year, social media and the news media are flooded with images of people planting saplings as a precursor to raise environmental consciousness. People these days? carry out various activities to spread the word on the necessity to protect our planet earth by keeping our environment clean and by opting to pursue a sustainable lifestyle.?
?
At this point, VentureVillage would like to take a moment to appreciate and honour the efforts of Ms. Sandhya Gajendragadkar, a project management professional based in Pune, who went out of her way to educate a group of students on waste management by motivating them to enrol for our ‘GreenCity’ programme.???
Ms. Sandhya and her husband are running a successful Project Management consultancy firm @PMSoft Consultancy Pvt. Ltd. When the global pandemic Covid-19 hit the world in 2020, Ms. Sandhya, to keep herself engaged during the lockdown, voluntarily started taking spoken english classes to a group of students from varied backgrounds. She had students of different ages ranging from school going kids to college students who were brought up in rural and urban settings.?
Being new to teaching, Ms. Sandhya had to do some homework on interesting ways to teach. She had to do some research on various teaching pedagogies and approaches to keep her students' interests alive. It was one of these searches that led her to VentureVillage and the various courses we offer. Our ‘GreenCity’ programme caught her attention.?
During her interactions with her students, she felt the need to orient students towards a sustainable lifestyle. “Students coming from rural areas have more affinity towards nature. They are more connected towards nature but students from the urban background need to be educated on waste management. They need to deliberate on waste and they should be? made aware of what happens to it after the disposal” says Ms. Sandhya.

“Nature is in such bad shape now. I am not in a position to go out and do the groundwork. After knowing about VentureVillage and the GreenCity programme, I found it informative and relevant”, she remarked. After enrolling herself to the programme and realising it as the need of the hour, she motivated her students to do the course. Through this humble initiative she hopes to nurture the environmental consciousness in students.?
Ms. Sandhya feels that the GreenCity program has to be taken by children and grownups and that the learnings have to be implemented in their life for a better, cleaner environment. This is because when wrong precedents are set within households, there is very little that external influences can do to guide the younger generation on proper waste management habits.
Educating people on waste management and enlightening them towards a sustainable living is a necessity. Perhaps a better way of celebrating environment day would be to enrol yourself or your students or children in this program and join a larger movement.
The course is self paced and spans 5 hours of pre -recorded video content along with games, activities and quizzes. For more details : https://venturevillage.world/greencity/
